DRIVE START APP

To improve the interaction of using a parking meter to pay for parking, I have developed an application where users can pay and book in advance on their own personal dashboard. This can be accessed

anywhere, on any handheld device where they can save their card details making it fast for future bookings. In New Zealand 81% of our population owns a smartphone which is significantly larger than the global average 71% (Yeh, 2019), making it seem appropriate to transfer to an online solution for all users. This day-to-day experience for many people should be quick and efficient for all users.

The Tesler’s Law or The Law of Conservation of Complexity is very prevalent in the current interaction (Yablonski, 2020) and has been reduced in the improvement to an online platform. There are some existing “park and pay” apps already which is why I ensured I used well-known icons, buttons and page layout to apply the Jackob’s Law (Yablonski, 2020), making it user friendly and compatible for all devices. For the 19% that do not have smartphones, I would suggest keeping the original parking meters as an option for users to ensure everyone gets to complete the interaction.
